Tasha

May 15, 2018 by Margaret Marinic

Tasha Viets-VanLear is a singer, poet and black queer organizer who delivers “divine love” through her music. Raised in Chicago, Tasha joined the Young Chicago Author society when she was just fifteen. Through this program she was able to cultivate her voice, her unique music style, and learned to “love her blackness”. Most of her music focuses on black empowerment and black love; especially noticeable in her songs “Divine Love” ft. Kennedy Bartley and “(We Got) Power” ft. Ethos. Tasha’s sweet and gentle voice cuts with the truth but seals with love. Her debut album in 2016, Divine Love is awakening to anyone who listens. Tasha works with BYP-100 (Black Youth Project 100) which is a member-based organization for Black Youth Activists who are working for justice and freedom for all Black people. Working with the Chicago chapter, this organization has helped with her creative process and inspired a lot of her work.
